Social Flooring Twitter Index Update - April 2010 Update

Social Flooring IndexHere follows the Social Flooring Twitter Index updated for the first quarter of 2010.

The last Twitter update of the Social Flooring Index was issued in November 2009.

I maintained the same format and Twitter Grader measure. As before, I separated the Index into two sections based on whether conversation or interaction was taking place or not.

You'll notice a third grouping, based on date of last update. Those are the accounts where no activity has taken place since at least January 2010. Given the fluid nature of Twitter, if updates aren't taking place on a frequent and consistent basis, then the commitment to the social platform isn't there.

Social Flooring Twitter Index Observations:

  • Since the last update, several accounts moved into the Yes/Convo? grouping. Very exciting!
  • Approximately ten accounts no longer exist since the last update.
  • I notice several accounts only updating their Twitter feed via their Facebook updates - not an ideal way to engage new Twitter followers. I'm curious to observe the Facebook ramifications.
And, then, questions:
  • Those active on Twitter, but not engaged in conversation, I'd love to hear your take on the value that Twitter brings you.
  • Those intensely focused on growing your Twitter followers, what is your strategy and why?
  • Those who are more conservative in growing your follower base, what is your strategy and why?
  • Those who haven't tweeted in a while, would you share why?
  • Do you have Twitter success stories to share?
  • How many of you are focused on building a Twitter network based on geography?
